Maureen Goodman:
As Programme Director for the Brahma Kumaris UK, Maureen has had the opportunity to work with many diverse communities. Her interests include young people, women’s empowerment, sustainability and building spiritual capacity. As the Brahma Kumaris representative at the United Nations, Vienna, she meets and dialogues with leaders actively engaged in politics, religion, education and community.
Involved in inter-religious dialogue for over 40 years, Maureen has travelled widely, representing the Brahma Kumaris in several interfaith organisations including Religions for Peace, the World Congress of Faiths and the International Association for Religious Freedom. She currently represents the Brahma Kumaris on the Board of World Religious Leaders of the Elijah Interfaith Institute and was a presenter in the Institute’s plenary sessions at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago in 2023.
In April 2022, she joined a group of religious leaders on a visit to Ukraine as part of the Faith in Ukraine initiative. She is also an ambassador to the Peace Pledge to Live Loving-Kindness and Compassion.
Maureen has a deep interest in the spiritual and ethical dimensions of climate change and climate justice and the connection between our inner state of being and the state of our Earth. This has led to involvement in several climate change conferences as a faith leader as part of the Interfaith Liaison Committee which reports directly to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. She was head of delegation at COP 27 in Sharm El-Sheikh in 2022. She also headed the Brahma Kumaris delegations to COP 15 and COP 16 for Biodiversity and represents the Brahma Kumaris in the International Coalition of Faiths for Biodiversity. She was a main presenter at the Global Faiths Leaders Summit in Abu Dhabi just prior to COP 28.
From 1992, for over 20 years, Maureen oversaw the Brahma Kumaris’ work in UK prisons, hosting seminars for prison staff and supporting prisoners with sessions on meditation and life skills.
Maureen is part of the Strategic Circle of the Spirit of Humanity Forum. Hosted by the City of Reykjavik since 2012, the Forum creates a safe space for self-exploration and dialogue among leaders and change-makers seeking transformation based on core human values. The theme of the Forum 2025 will be ‘Inner Wisdom in Governance and Leadership: acting with courage and compassion’.
