  Khan and John Handy which was recorded in 1975 and originally released on
  the MPS label. Allmusic awarded the album 4½ stars stating 'Karuna Supreme
 \, recorded in 1975\, is one of the earliest true fusions of Indian music 
 and jazz\, and remains one of the most successful... The level of communic
 ation among the players throughout this session would be difficult to surp
 ass. This is one of those rare East-meets-West recordings that absolutely 
 succeeds at every level. Highly recommended'. Ali Akbar Khan (14 April 192
 2?18 June 2009) was a Hindustani classical musician of the Maihar gharana\
 , known for his virtuosity in playing the sarod. Trained as a classical mu
 sician and instrumentalist by his father\, Allauddin Khan\, Khan also comp
 osed several classical ragas and film scores.[1] He established a music sc
 hool in Calcutta in 1956\, and the Ali Akbar College of Music in 1967\, wh
 ich moved with him to the USA and is now based in San Rafael\, California\
