DESCRIPTION:Speculate with us about the materials of tomorrow and co-create
a temporary exhibit for Futurium Lab! In the workshop series 'Materialzuk
ünfte besuchen? (Visiting Material Futures)\, researchers from Matters of Activ
ity share insights into their work\, which you will use to develop futures
scenarios and design prototypes. The experienced speculation team of Coll
Active Materials will guide you ? no previous knowledge or special skills
required!New workshop series in cooperation with the Berlin Clusters of Ex
cellence »Matters of Activity« and CollActive Materials at Futurium.+++ The
workshop will be held in English +++In this workshop\, we dive into the in
terconnected world of fungi and their mycelium. Together with architects D
imitra Almpani-Lekka and Natalija Miodragovi?\, we explore the properties
and behaviours of mycelium in nature and architecture\, to speculate about
future relations and applications: Could the buildings of tomorrow be gro
wn in collaboration with plants and fungi? Can fungi help us build life-su
pporting networks in the cities to maintain natural resources and the loca
l biodiversity? How can co-designing and co-habiting with a living organis
m transform our experience of future architecture and our relationships wi
th other species?Natalija Miodragovi? and Dimitra Almpani-Lekka are resear
ching architects who within the framework of 'Matters of Activity' experim
ent with fungal material systems in the architectural context. The researc
h is supported by the Biomaterials Lab of the Applied and Molecular Microb
iology department of TU Berlin.ALL DATES OF THIS WORKSHOP SERIEShttps://fu
 turium.de/en/visitin...COOPERATIONCollActive Materials is an experimental
laboratory of the Berlin Clusters of Excellence »Matters of Activity« (Humbo
ldt-Universita?t zu Berlin) and »Science of Intelligence« (Technische Univer
sita?t Berlin)\, funded by the Berlin University Alliance. The aim of the
project is to develop Speculative Design as a new approach for knowledge e
xchange between research\, society\, and design\, thus making joint encoun
ters possible on equal footing. As an experimental\, transdisciplinary proj
ect\, CollActive Materials brings material everyday practices from diverse
social contexts into open conversation with approaches in research.ABOUT
AN OPEN LAB ABENDEvery Thursday things get creative in the lab. You will l
earn about methods such as design thinking or future storytelling\, you ca
n try out 3D printers and laser cutters or take a look behind the scenes o
f the lab projects. There's something new every week.WORKSHOP INSTRUCTORSS
cience communicators Antje Nestler and Kristin Werner are connecting scien
ce and society at the research cluster Matters of Activity. Within the co-
design project CollActive Materials\, they explore how people from researc
h and society can engage in conversation through speculative design. Their
colleagues Eva Bullermann and Julia Blumenthal support them in this endea
vor.Natalija Miodragovi? and Dimitra Almpani-Lekka are a researching archi
tects within the Matters of Activity framework. They experiment with the u
se of fiber and fungi-based composite materials in the architectural conte
xt\, especially in public places.Credits photo: Myko.Plektonik - An Explor
