DESCRIPTION:host Dj Ed2000 very special guest Dj Vela Special guest on this
event is very fittingly Dj Vela ( please write your affiliations ). Vela
reveals the potential of music: Diving into the flow of a dense electronic
texture of tech house\, deep house\, breaks and techno\, she creates a sp
ace of freedom. Here sound rules the world. Constraints fall away. The soc
ial rulebook shatters on the ground of the facts of all-encompassing sound
power. The spirit of a long international music history\, a co-creator of
the underground and her involvement in FLINTA* initiatives can be felt he
re.As one of the original Dangerous Drums Djs \, she very quickly identifi
ed some shortcomings in the business side of thigs. She got involved with
every aspect of running a monthly 2 floor event with international guests
on pretty much every line up\, and subsequently ran the show in every resp
ect and the label of the same name that inevitably followed. All of this o
n top of her Dj career which resulted in her being booked all over the wor
ld\, commissioned by adidas to produce their anthem for their world cup/ol
ympics campaigns\, releasing her own tracks and being invited\, to Dj a so
undrack for a stage show that was of tremendous cultural significance and
importance at the time\, revealing as it did for the frst time the true sc
ale and severity of the conflicts raging between different immigrant ethni
cities in Berlin. Vela in effect ran Dangerous Drums as a succesfull event
series staged nearly 100 times in several different countries\, its label
that released material by dozens of artists\, many making their debut on
the label ( for example Marten Hørger) as well as internationally succesfull a
rtists like Marusha\, without compomising the quality\, momentum and artis
tic credibility of of her Dj career. If ever there was an unsung hero it i
s DJ Vea wihout whom it is generaly acknowledged the dangerous drums succe
ss story spanning 20+ years would likely have been over after three or for
events. Whatever she decides to play on October 10 in Eschschloraque\, yo
u can be sure it will be a stand out performance from a dedicated\, experi
enced and internationally acclaimed Berlin Dj.Dj Ed2000Corin has always se
en Radio as one of the most important factors in a Dj Culture that should
be a Transporter of New Ideas and Attitudes\, and likewise an ever evolvin
g always fresh to the ears and irresistible to the feet Soundtrack for tho
se new ideas and attitudes.Being born in the late 1950s in London he grew
up with his Mother listening to the then new and exciting Radio 1 heavy on
the pop of the day\, the Rolling Stones\, the Kinks\, the Beatles\, durin
g the day and the Soul soundtrack to life that his Father prefered in the
evenings. Stax\, Motown\, Otis Redding\, Ray Charles...he showed corin how
he recorded 4 hour tape reels of the pirate radio ship carioline and then
went through the reel splicing the tape to take out all but the essential
tunes of the moment. Beat matched to boot! John Peel played an immense ro
le in Corins musical education and thereafter the Pirate stations were run
ning things.Moving to Berlin in 89\, there have been Ed2000 radio shows co
ntinuously since 1994. Radio is where the avant garde in any new sound and
lifestyle will be heard by most people first\, as only very few will actu
ally be in the hotspot where anything innovative starts to gain momentum.
Corin currently has two reguar radio shows\, Dub Intervention fortnightly
on The Face Radio Bkn\, New York and Dangerous Drums: A New Chapter on Ber
lins Cashmere Radio. Both in their own way carry the message that can neve
r be heard to often. It Began in Africa and it is the vibrant and core elem
ents of the sounds that are the hallmark of his two shows that will be pre
sented at the point where soundwise they do indedéd meet\, from the sample l
aden sonics of Dub Intervention to the varied Bass styles that are todays
cuttíng edge call to the dance floor. Right now Ed2000s favorite artists are
Lukado from South Africa\, with his take on Amapiano which is simply out
there in a space of its own and Jon E Cash\, the founder of Grime who is f
using elements from traditional and current acfrocentric beats into a new
style all of its own. As a reference regards what to expect musically\, as
well as the insistent rhythms and basslines of Hodge\, Corins third favor
ite artists here and now\, with a ramped up dub presence via software hard
ware and samples a plenty and you have an idea of where this may be going.
On a good night that will sometimes be somewhere both deeply familiar and
at the same time somwhere neither the dj or the guests have been before..
