  von Ecuador\, Jorge Jurado\, eine Fotoausstellung eröffnen\, die Wissenschaf
 t\, Krankheiten und die Kunst erkundet. ACCIDENTAL HOST (zufälliger Wirt) be
 steht aus 23 Werken des Fotografen Pablo Rojas\, wo eine Vielfalt von Medi
 en eingesetzt wird\, von mikrospkopisch kleinen Ausstellungsstücken und dem gen
 etischen Code (DNA) bis zur traditionellen Porträtfotografie und zu computer
 generierten Bildern. Durch das Verschmelzen des Instruments der konzeptuel
 len Fotografie mit einem innigen Verständnis der Mikrobiologie untersucht AC
 CIDENTAL HOST wörtlich sowie bildhaft die Art und Weise\, auf welche wir die 
 Krankheiten betrachten. ACCIDENTAL HOST bricht mit den Konventionen der Fo
 tografie\, um die Differenzen zwischen den wissenschaftlichen und künstlerische
 n Praktiken zu versöhnen. Eine Biofilm Star genannte Fotoserie\, auf welchen 
 die kaleidoskopische Geometrie mikrobieller Abbildungen abfärbt\, erschafft 
 eine unbehagliche Schönheit mit Infektionsspuren. Eine weitere Fotoserie\, Th
 e Fringe of Growth (Am Rande des Wachstums) verwandelt Diagnosebilder unsi
 chtbarer Erreger in eine sichtbare und dynamische Karte des Lebens in eine
 r Petrischale. Andere Ausstellungsstücke beinhalten ein experimentelles Video s
 owie Fotomontage. Die Fotografien von Pablo Rojas\, auf welchen die mensch
 liche Welt gleichsam mit dem weiten Universum des mikroskopischen Lebens a
 bgebildet ist\, sind auf merkwürdige Weise fremdartig und zugleich von einer er
 staunlichen Vertrautheit. Pablo Rojas ist ein Fotograf und Mikrobiologe\, 
 dessen Werk sich sowohl aus der experimentellen Kunst als auch aus seinem 
 biologischen Experimentieren herleitet. Seine künstlerische Arbeit wurde im Rah
 men von Kunstausstellungen in Quito\, Dublin\, Sarajevo\, Braunschweig und
  Berlin vorgestellt. Im Jahr 2014 wird er sein DAAD Fellowship beenden und
  von der Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin den Titel Ph.D. in medizinischer M
 ikrobiologie erhalten. Während der Vernissage wird Pablo Rojas anwesend sein

 -21:00BERLIN?On February 24\, 2014\, the ambassador of Ecuador\, Jorge Jur
 ado\, will open a new exhibition of photographs that explore science\, mal
 ady\, and art. ACCIDENTAL HOST features 23 works from photographer Pablo R
 ojas that build on a diverse range of media\, from microscope slides and D
 NA code to traditional portraiture and computer-generated images. By fusin
 g the tools of conceptual photography with an intimate understanding of mi
 crobiology\, ACCIDENTAL HOST examines?literally and figuratively?the way w
 e see disease. ACCIDENTAL HOST breaks the conventions of photography in or
 der to reconcile the differences between artistic and scientific practice.
  A series of portraits called Biofilm Star\, tinted by the kaleidoscopic g
 eometry of microbial imaging\, creates an uneasy beauty from traces of inf
 ection. Another series\, The Fringe of Growth\, transforms diagnostic imag
 es of invisible pathogens into visible and vibrant maps of life in a petri
  dish. Other works on display include experimental video and photomontage.
  Rojas' photographs are at once curiously alien and uncannily familiar\, p
 ortraying the human world alongside a vast universe of microscopic life. P
 ablo Rojas is a photographer and microbiologist who draws just as much fro
 m experimental art as from biological experimentation. His artistic work h
 as been exhibited at shows in Quito\, Dublin\, Sarajevo\, Braunschweig and
  Berlin. In 2014\, he will complete a DAAD Fellowship and receive his Ph.D
 . in medical microbiology from the Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin. Pablo R
