  its quality and originality. The traditional artistic craft is an importa
 nt part of the Czech cultural heritage. During the event An Evening for Cz
 ech Glass four speakers will discuss the future potentials of Czech glass.
 Various branches of glassmaking always played a central role in the countr
 y's export trade whether mass-produced or handcrafted. Made solely out of 
 domestic resources and supported by the unique infrastructure of specializ
 ed glass schools\, applied arts academies\, and glass museums Czech glass 
 became a household name internationally. This phenomenon\, which has succe
 ssfully survived the economic\, political\, and social upheavals from the 
 industrial revolution to the foundation of an independent state\, the Germ
 an annexation\, and the communist regime is today struggling for direction
 . Public and private initiatives are challenged by numerous obstacles in p
 roviding a platform for contemporary glassmaking and in securing the space
  for inventiveness and skill. Four speakers will discuss the future potent
 ials of Czech glass.After the discussion we will visit the glass works of
