 ON SEE BELOWIn seiner Arbeit ?Asbestos? zeigt Matthias Walendy den Wandel 
 und Niedergang der gleichnamigen Stadt in Québec\, Kanada. Asbest wurde hier
  über Jahrhunderte abgebaut und gab der Stadt ihren Namen. Der Rohstoff verlieh
  der Stadt und ihren Einwohnern über Generationen Identität und Stolz. Sie lebten
  in Wohlstand und Reichtum. Asbest wurde lange Zeit als das Wundermittel u
 nter den Rohstoffen gehandelt. Anfang der 90er Jahre wurde es dann von der
  WHO als gesundheitsgefährdend eingestuft und nahezu alle Industrienationen 
 stellten den Abbau und die Verwendung ein. Erst 2012 wurde der Abbau in As
 bestos endgültig gestoppt. Die ehemals größte Asbestmine der Welt musste schließen.
  Seitdem steht die Stadt still.In großartigen Bildern erzählt Matthias Walend
 y vor allem von den Menschen dort und ihrem Umgang mit der Situation. Die 
 Portraits der Bewohner\, die beeindruckende\, beängstigende Minenlandschaft 
 und die Architektur und der Leerstand der Stadt stehen als Sinnbilder der 
 Resignation.Alexander Gehrings Arbeit ?Dunkle Kammern? wirft einen Blick i
 n Höhlen und unterirdische Gewölbe. Räume\, in deren Finsternis von Natur aus Bild
 er geschaffen werden und die eng mit unserer Bildkultur verbunden sind. Ni
 cht nur entstanden in Höhlen die ersten von Menschenhand geschaffenen Bilder\
 , sondern in ihr wurde sich der Mensch auch zum ersten Mal der trügerischen Kra
 ft des Bildes bewusst: in Platos Höhle erlebt er das Geschaute als Surrogat\,
  als reines Abbild einer realen Welt. In ihr entsteht so\, ganz nebenbei\,
  auch eine erste Reflexion über den Wahrheitsgehalt der Fotografie. In Alexande
 r Gehrings Arbeit wird die Höhle zu einer Vorform der fotografischen Dunkelka
 mmer ? in ihr entstehen Bilder und in Ihrem eigenen fotografischen Abbild 
 spiegelt sich der beständige Wunsch des Menschen nach visuellen Wundern\, di
 e sich außerhalb ihrer dunklen Wände als bildgewordene Wahrheiten manifestier
 en.____________In his work 'Asbestos' Matthias Walendy shows the change an
 d decline of the eponymous town in Quebec\, Canada. Asbestos has been mine
 d here for centuries and gave the town its name. The raw material gave the
  city and its inhabitants for generations identity and pride. They lived i
 n prosperity and wealth. Asbestos has been traded for a long time as the p
 anacea among the raw materials. In the early 90s it was then classified by
  the WHO as harmful to health and almost all industrial nations stopped mi
 ning and use. Until 2012 the mining was finally stopped in Asbestos. The f
 ormerly largest asbestos mine in the world had to close. Since then\, the 
 city stands still.In great pictures Matthias Walendy tells particularly a 
 story of the people there and their handling of the situation. The portrai
 ts of the inhabitants\, the impressive\, frightening mine landscape and th
 e architecture and the vacancy of the city stand out as symbols of resigna
 tionAlexander Gehring's work 'Dunkle Kammern' takes a look at caves and un
 derground vaults. Rooms where in their darkness images are created by natu
 re and which are closely linked to our visual culture . Not only the first
  man-made pictures originated in caves\, but in the cave the human being b
 ecame aware for the first time the deceptive power of image: in Plato's ca
 ve \, he experienced the things being looked at as a surrogate\, as a pure
  image of a real world. In the cave a first reflection is also\, just by t
 he way\, on the veracity of photography being created. In Alexander Gehrin
 g's work the cave becomes a preform of the photographic darkroom - in her 
 images are created and in her own the photographic image of the constant h
 uman desire for visual miracles is reflected\, which manifest themselves o
