DESCRIPTION:Americans have long trumpeted the checks and balances that anim
ate their constitution\, but the dramatic first 100 days of Donald Trump?s
presidency have called this into question. In this talk\, and in his new b
ook\, 'The National Security Constitution in the 21st Century'\, Harold Ho
ngju Koh\, Sterling Professor of International Law and former Dean at Yale
Law School\, former Legal Adviser and Assistant Secretary for Democracy\,
Human Rights\, and Labor at the State Department\, explains how the natio
nal security laws in the U.S. have changed. From a 'shared powers' model ?
where responsibility and authority are divided between different branches
of government (especially between the President and Congress) ? to 'execu
tive unilateralism' ? where the President increasingly acts alone in natio
nal security matters\, without needing approval or input from Congress. Ko
h?s lecture will investigate how the second Trump presidency has already e
levated executive unilateralism into an overarching constitutional rationa
le.Join the Academy and Harold Hongju Koh to explore this historical shift
in the United States\, and to learn what actions should be taken now in r
esponse to this change. In cooperation with the Integrative Research Instit
ute Law &amp\; Society\, Humboldt Universität zu BerlinLocation: Humboldt Un
iversität zu Berlin (Senatssaal)Register to attend.&nbsp\;\n\nViel Spass wünscht
