The Durgas is an internationally minded rock and roots band formed in 2004 by brothers Benjii Simmersbach and Christopher “Graigrai” Simmersbach after an hiatus of their influential underground alternative group A Subtle Plague (1984 – 1999... with continuing collaborations) and A drastic Measure (1999 – 2004).
Drawing on a childhood spent across Europe, Africa, Southeast Asia and the United States the band developed a distinctive sound blending rock, reggae, Americana, blues, African rhythms and Eastern European folk music.
Based variously in Los Angeles, Ojai, Budapest and the Berkshires of Massachusetts The Durgas became known for their energetic international touring and multicultural collaborations, performing throughout Europe, the U.S. and Asia.
