Beneath the surface, life finds a way.
Underground Garden is a multidisciplinary exhibition bringing together thirteen international female and no-binary artists whose works explore resilience, care, memory, transformation, and the unseen forces that shape our lives.
Set within the historic Gewölbekeller, the exhibition transforms a former brewery cellar into an immersive landscape of installation, painting, sculpture, sound, video, photography, and performance. Visitors are invited to move through a space where roots spread through concrete, memories linger in hidden corners, and new forms of growth emerge from darkness.
The garden serves as both a physical and symbolic space; a place of cultivation, resistance, vulnerability, and renewal. Beneath the surface of everyday life lie stories that often remain unseen: acts of care, quiet forms of resilience, inherited memories, and the continuous process of becoming. Underground Garden brings these hidden narratives into view, creating encounters between the personal and the collective, the natural and the constructed, the visible and the invisible.
Within the bunker-like architecture of the venue, the participating artists engage with themes of femininity, ecology, identity, migration, belonging, and transformation. Through immersive installations and site-responsive interventions, the exhibition invites visitors to consider how growth often begins in places that are overlooked, forgotten, or hidden from sight.
At a moment marked by social uncertainty and environmental change, Underground Garden proposes care as a radical act and resilience as a collective practice. Rather than offering a place of escape, the exhibition presents the garden as a living ecosystem, one where growth and decay coexist, where roots spread silently beneath the ground, and where new possibilities emerge from what has been buried.
