Noël O'Callaghan - “Changelings in Nighttown” - Galerie Michaela Helfrich, Bleibtreu Strasse 3 - 19.00 on 12th June You are cordially invited to the opening of “Changelings in Nighttown” at the Galerie Michaela Helfrich, Bleibtreu Strasse 3, Berlin 10623 The exhibition opening will take place at 19.00 on 12th June when the artist will be in conversation with curator, culture worker and founder of Irish Berlin, Beate Lemcke. There will be live music from The Vangardaí.* The exhibition “Changelings in Nighttown” from the 12th to the 26th June 2024 is a solo show by Irish artist Noël O'Callaghan, the paintings and drawings in the show will be from her “Changelings” series. These works were begun during the lockdown when the artist, in the absence of her regular life-drawing group, began to alter existing life-drawings by allowing them to freely mutate into new beings. The “Nighttown” of the title references the Circe chapter of James Joyce’s Ulysses. Bleibtreu Strasse, in Charlottenburg, where the gallery is located, is the only street in Germany to be mentioned in this book. On Bloomsday the artist will do a “walk and talk” from number 3 to number 34. There will be readings from relevant sections of Ulysses, and musical episodes will occur.
