Join DOC in Berlin to hear from Andreas Schleicher, Director for Education and Skills, and Special Advisor on Education Policy to the Secretary-General at the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and creator of Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), as he discusses the future of education in a rapidly changing world.There are lots of challenges facing modern education systems globally. Many current teaching institutions and methods are struggling to adapt to a rapidly changing world.
Today, schools must prepare students for faster change, because the challenges of the 21st century require them to learn for jobs that do not yet exist, to cope with societal changes that we cannot yet imagine, and to use technologies that have not yet been invented. Teaching students for their future and not our past is of vital importance.Sticking to the status quo in terms of teaching and education seems safe, and may be politically motivated. But doing this will not prepare our children adequately for their future.In this lecture, part of our Meet in Mitte series, Andreas Schleicher will provide an outlook on modern educational systems, how politics could influence the implementation of change and how to bring about the change that is necessary to futureproof education.
This lecture is a chance to hear from one of the global preeminent voices on education. In his role at the OECD, Mr Schleicher supports the Secretary-General’s strategy to produce analysis and policy advice that advances economic growth and social progress. He promotes the work of the Directorate for Education and Skills on a global stage and fosters co-operation both within and outside the OECD.
In addition to policy and country reviews, the work of the Directorate includes the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), the OECD Survey of Adult Skills (PIAAC), the OECD Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS), and the development and analysis of benchmarks on the performance of education systems (INES).The lecture will be followed by Q&A and networking.
