Karuna Supreme is an album by Ali Akbar Khan and John Handy which was recorded in 1975 and originally released on the MPS label. Allmusic awarded the album 4½ stars stating "Karuna Supreme, recorded in 1975, is one of the earliest true fusions of Indian music and jazz, and remains one of the most successful... The level of communication among the players throughout this session would be difficult to surpass. This is one of those rare East-meets-West recordings that absolutely succeeds at every level. Highly recommended". Ali Akbar Khan (14 April 1922–18 June 2009) was a Hindustani classical musician of the Maihar gharana, known for his virtuosity in playing the sarod. Trained as a classical musician and instrumentalist by his father, Allauddin Khan, Khan also composed several classical ragas and film scores.[1] He established a music school in Calcutta in 1956, and the Ali Akbar College of Music in 1967, which moved with him to the USA and is now based in San Rafael, California, with a branch in Basel, Switzerland.

Im Jazz-Bereich sind dafür u.a. die Jazz Bigbands der öffentlich-rechtlichen Radiosender bekannt. In Berlin gab es in der Vergangenheit verschiedene Ansätze für einen festen Ort mit eigenem Jazz-Ensemble, bisher allerdings ohne Resultat.
Das WorldJazz@WERKSTATT DER KULTUREN-Ensemble "LITTLE BIG BAND & friends", ist ein sich ständig umformierendes Ensemble aus Jazz- und World-Musiker*innen, das den größten Teil der im Kontext von WorldJazz@WERKSTATT DER KULTUREN stattfindenden Konzerte bestreiten wird:Homage SessionWorld Jazz ClubOriginal MusicInternational Jazz Day
Die LITTLE BIG BAND besteht aus einem festen Nukleus von Musiker*innen, die durch unterschiedliche Kolleg*innen verstärkt wird – abhängig davon, welche Werke welcher World-Jazz-Komponist*innen gespielt wird.Saxophonist Fuasi Abdul-Khaliq fungiert als Bandleader der LITTLE BIG BAND; Schlagzeuger Eric Vaughn ist co-leader der LITTLE BIG BAND, und leitet die HOMAGE SESSION. In rund 40 Konzerten, die 2018 in der WERKSTATT DER KULTUREN in unterscheidlichen Formaten und Genres stattfinden, wird die LITTLE BIG BAND u.a. musikalisch unterstützt von Max Hugh (bass), Reggie Moore (piano), Richard Howell (sax), Robby Gerken (congas), Terence Harper (trumpet), Alexey Kochetkov (violin), Aly Keita (balafon), Badou M'Baye (djembe), Bertolt Karsten Troyke (vocals), Ekow Alabi (vocals), Johan Meijer (guitar), Lucia Fodde (vocals), Mayelis Guyat (vocals), Miriam Netti (vocals), Momo Djender (vocals, guitar, oud, gimbri), Natalie Greffel (vocals), Sungjun Ko (guitar, oud), Yoro M'baye (djembe), Vido Jelashe Mbutuma (vocals), El Congo Allen (trumpet), Geoffroy De Masure (trombone), J.C.
