Scopes is led by Berlin based drummer Mathias Ruppnig and bassist Tom Berkmann, who have been working and performing with pianist Tony Tixier for several years now. They met in New York, where each spent several years and developed his own style in music. There they decided form the group SCOPES to create a distinct band-sound with sense for the pulse of time. They have invited Wanja Slavin on alto saxophone to complete the quartet to produce a transparent, modern sound that stands out from the classic acoustic line up. While their music is deeply grounded in the jazz tradition, their songs serve as a platform to explore new realms through improvisation. Like a kaleidoscope, their music evolves in each concert and creates an unique experience for the listener. Their self titled debut album SCOPES has been released on March 29th 2019 on Whirlwind Recordings.
